HBO Buys Duke Lacrosse Rape Case Movie Rights

Everybody's favorite persecuted preppies will take a turn on the big screen. The movie rights are based on the coach's book, so it's not hard to speculate on who'll end up looking charitable.

HBO has acquired the movie rights to the book written by former Duke lacrosse head coach Mike Pressler and Don Yaeger, It’s Not About the Truth. The book chronicles the Duke lacrosse rape allegations, from the initial indictments in March 2006 all the way until the players' pronounced innocence in April 2007. If produced, the film will be the first movie about the case.

The book from Pressler and Yaeger, a former Sports Illustrated associate editor, was released in June 2007 and came out in paperback in May. The other most famous book about the lacrosse case, Until Proven Innocent by K.C. Johnson and Stuart Taylor, was released in September.

Discussion
  • No doubt that Hopkins head coach Dave Pietramala will be portrayed as an evil villain, most likely petting a white cat in his lap as he plans on destroying the Duke boys' dreams two years in a row. Anyway, this will definitely be good for the sport.

  • It'll be than good for the sport, it'll be good for more people to see how the media, specifically The New York Times, convicted those Duke lacrosse players in the court of public opinion. K.C. Johnson, hardly conservative, was a heroic figure in this case, blogging non-stop, countering the bogus stories with facts.
