Helmut Lang: It’s so fast and intense.

Frankie Knuckles: Up close and personal.

Lang: But, if a room feels completely dislocated, I would rather be in a tent.

Knuckles: Sure. (laughs) She was a really close friend of mine and I really don’t know where she is nowadays, we were really close.

Lang: When you meet her in person, you leave so completely enriched and touched.

Knuckles: Some people start crying when they tell me the story, I don’t discount their emotions, it’s just amazing when you develop something and it touches people like that. Who knew?

Lang: What's left now is just a phantom of the spirit which was there, but that's good enough.

Knuckles: That’s half true.

Lang: Things often appear different when you are looking at them from the outside.

Knuckles: There could be points in the evening where the energy level is so high that I felt I needed to give people a chance to catch up to themselves so the song playing would fade right into a rainstorm and then we’d turn on the exhaust fans and the heat in the room would completely disappear.

Lang: I can’t go anymore.

Knuckles: It’s kind of heartbreaking.

Lang: At the very beginning, the website designers we talked to said, "Your website looks like shit. We could do a lot for you," blah, blah, blah.

Knuckles: At that particular point you’re better off stepping to the back of the booth because the records are playing themselves.

Lang: I know. When the first tourists came, we put flowers, stones, and sticks into little plastic ice cream cups.
