So while liberals might like to sit back and watch conservatives take each other apart, they have a vested interest in the outcome of that melee. Liberals’ own evolution into a more nuanced and effective governing party is, at least in part, dependent upon the sparing partner they have - the better that sparring partner, the sharper their own jabs become. And to this end, liberals should, perhaps somewhat counter intuitively, want for the conservative phoenix to rise and do what they can do help the avatars of that symbol. Lord knows that the battle will fierce and that heterodox, reformist conservatives could use what support they can find in going about realizing heir cause. The faster the likely imbalance is corrected, the faster Americans in general are able to reengage the dialectic of their future.
