Why am I watching this?
Last night I was in a bar that was playing basketball and figure skating on two TV's right next to each other. I started thinking, "Basketball is definitely a sport, but I think you could argue that figure skating is either not a sport, or we need a new word for whatever weird thing it is." Then I realized how incredibly ESPN-centric that was. It's an athletic competition, and clearly really difficult, but the outcome seems wholly subjective - as if basketball had a less ridiculous set of rules or was more fair. In the end I guess all sports are essentially entertainment via arbitrary emotional investment, and that is kind of depressing.
