Happening At The Haight

Following in the decades-long wake of 60s decadence, modern street kids that inhabit the Haight-Ashbury district aren't exactly hippies anymore. They still live in a world where pot is currency, but one has to wonder whether the spirit of counter-culture living has gone a bit awry. Watch this short documentary made by a young filmmaker and decide for yourself.

  • "If you can afford to give someone on the street a quarter you can afford to give them a twenty." Man, I hate hippies, and I guess now Haight street kids.

  • That's WAY too harsh, man. Leave the kids alone.

  • "Leave the kids alone." Are you serious. All hippies do is talk about how they're going to change the world with peace. And guess what, surprise surprise, they haven't yet, nor will they ever. They're a waste of street space.

  • You're right souleater. The hippies in the sixties didn't change anything. Kids today are still just having a swell time at the box social, going steady with their number one gal, and bopping around to the jukebox at the diner. That whole "revolution of youth" thing and that silly "counterculture" idea were obviously just fads.
