There hasn't been a debate

Breaking down the Conservative Irrationality Model.

Lately, we've all been seeing the difficulties in trying to have a rational conversation about something important with irrational actors.Yes, I'm talking about debating healthcare with Republicans. It's impossible to get to any substantial discussion of healthcare because all of my time has been spent trying to dispel viral lies that they've become infected with. And then, when you do dispel the lies, they like to challenge you to read the bill (a bill which they themselves haven't read).

Discussion
  • You're right, Benn, about Republicans watching Fox, but what else is new? They watched Fox when Bush foolishly invaded Iraq. It's the independent voters, those who vote for presidential and Congressional candidates of different parties, who are also upset with the Democratic administration's healthcare plan. Which leads me to believe that the Democrats, who are in control now after all, haven't clearly communicated their message.

  • Isn't the Republican agenda to simply stonewall and terminate any debate? That's why there is so much disruption. They don't want debate. They want status quo. And they're winning while we are tying to dispell their stories. All we're doing is wasting time as well. There is no debate. And I doubt there is any political will to effectivey change health insurance and health care in this nation.

  • I don't think the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Henry Waxman and bloggers like Daily Kos are interested in debate, either. Same old gridlock, and no faction is taking the high road (if, in fact, there is a high road when a major piece of legislation is being bruited about).
