Graham Platner has announced that he’s quitting the race for senator from Maine. He blames powerful forces that dominate the Democratic Party. Everyone else blames what he did that night to Jenny Racicot. Allegedly, of course. After one drip of shit and another for nine months, a last dollop came along and broke his back. The accusation, rape, was by the far worst ever lodged against him. Plus, the person who lodged it had a background free of tricky complications. She wasn’t a Republican operative and her social media posts looked all right. Finally, Facebook messages that she’d written years before Platner became a candidate warned that he was “consensually careless” and “doesn’t listen to you when drunk.” Add it up and all sides were satisfied. Rho Khanna and Jon Favreau, left-winger and Obama boy, said they were done with the big man.
Graham Platner shook his fist and said that forces had rigged things, just as the Berniacs said when their man lost in 2016 and 2020. This squalid habit alone is enough to make me despise the ex-candidate. Like Trump, Platner shits on the public’s faith in order, and he does it because he doesn’t want to face facts (for Trump losing, for Platner losing because of his own deeds). It’s a baby-man approach, and there it is in right-wing president and left-wing upstart. What an age of soggy brutes bellowing about mistreatment.
Everyone has their “that does it” moment for Platner. Mine was the sexting. Platner spent months saying all his black marks dated to the 1990s, when he was messed up from combat and learning to live again. But the sexting was from 2024. He’d been lying every time he gave his back-in-the-1990s line, and he did it knowing the evidence was out there. The guy’s a screwball. He just kind of figured it would all work out, I suppose. This is existential living to a cockeyed degree, and imagine a Democratic Senate with him and Fetterman as the deciding votes.
America has a bad case of the wobbles. Having Platner in the Senate would’ve added to the wobbling in a very big way. We’re so lucky he’s out of the race, and it’s only too bad he can enter podcasting (or whatever forum) and keep running his mouth. It’s better than if he had some position of responsibility. But it’s not nearly as good as seeing him dry up and blow away.
