Nothing mind-blowing here—at least, not yet—from London's own Friend. Just like NJ's Ducktails, Friend creates hypnotic musical patterns that casually envelop the listener for several minutes before spitting them out in a jelly-like state and slightly directionless. "Black Keys (Demo)" (which sounds nothing like the Black Keys, sorry to disppoint) has a surprisingly sweet back-end with Navajo windpipes and all. To my knowledge, "Dreams" is brand-spanking new and charts more disco-tinged waters. I can't quite cite the funk samples but it does sound an awful lot like the intro to "Cornbread Time" by Spice Girl progenitors The Paper Dolls, in which case Friend is my new favorite band!
