Finally, an Artistic Use for Da Vinci

Peter Greenaway, maverick British director of The Draughtman's Contract and reigning Most Pretentious Man Alive, has once again courted controversy with his new work. It's an installation piece involving video projections over Da Vinci's "The Last Supper." He's been using a hi-res photo of the painting, and for some reason the Milanese government doesn't want him using the original. Here's what it looks like.

There's a fine roundup of photos available here, as well.

Pretentiousness aside, Greenaway has made some of the most mesmerizing films of the last 30 years, including The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. He's got a new one coming out called Nightwatching, and here's the trailer for it.
